In-Person Clinical Competency

The In-Person Clinical Competency is the hands-on portion of the VRBA TricholBalance program. It is designed to evaluate how well the student can apply the knowledge learned throughout the curriculum in a supervised, real-world setting.

For the In-Person Clinical Competency, the TRICHOL Method will serve as the student’s practical step-by-step guide for applying their knowledge during a real client assessment.

T — Take the Client History
Gather the client’s hair, scalp, medical, lifestyle, nutrition, medication, stress, sleep, and styling history.

R — Review the Hair & Scalp
Perform a systematic assessment of the scalp, hair shaft, density, shedding, breakage, follicular openings, and visible patterns.

I — Inspect With Imaging
Use digital scalp imaging or magnification to examine the scalp and follicles more closely and establish a documented baseline.

C — Connect the Findings
Compare what you observe with the client’s history to identify possible contributing factors and patterns.

H — Highlight Red Flags
Recognize findings that may require medical evaluation, contraindicate treatment, or fall outside the practitioner’s scope.

O — Outline the Support Plan
Develop a realistic holistic support plan that may include scalp care, hair-care changes, lifestyle support, referrals, and follow-up.

L — Log, Educate & Follow Up
Document findings professionally, educate the client, complete SOAP notes when appropriate, establish progress measurements, and schedule reassessment.

The TRICHOL Clinical Standard

The purpose of the clinical is not to test how many treatments a student can perform. The primary goal is to determine whether the student can safely assess a client, interpret findings within their scope, communicate professionally, and make sound decisions about support, referral, and follow-up.

Successful completion of the In-Person Clinical Competency demonstrates that the student is prepared to apply the principles of holistic trichology in a professional client-care environment

In-Person Clinical Competency Scheduling

The VRBA In-Person Clinical Competency will be scheduled as a group experience for multiple students.

The clinical date, time, and location will be announced as you progress through the course and move closer to completion of the academic requirements.

Students will receive advance notice with:

• Clinical date
• Start and end time
• Location and address
• What to bring
• Dress requirements
• Required forms or materials
• Any preparation needed before attending

Students are encouraged to continue progressing through the curriculum and completing all required assignments, quizzes, examinations, and case-study work.

Important

The In-Person Clinical Competency is a required part of the VRBA certification process. Students should plan to attend the assigned clinical date once scheduling information is released.
